Kimba is a poet who has worked with schools, community groups and has also released 2 hip hop albums.

About Kimba

Kimba wrote his first significant piece of poetry at age 11. He didn’t realise how significant it would become until his mother discovered it in his bedroom. It was a piece expressing his discontent about issues at home. It was at this point he discovered the power of the written word. It wasn’t until Kimba received a full scholarship to study at University he would realise the necessity of creative writing and performance as facilitators of his personal growth and achievement. Since finding his voice in poetry & performance he has worked with several well known schools, charities, organisations, & corporations including but not limited to:

The Houses of Parliament, The Tate Modern, The Victoria & Albert Museum Poetic History, The Fairbridge Organization, Kompany Malakhi Creative Arts in Poetry/Rap/Theatre/Improv (Bristol/London/ Birmingham), Tulse Hill Estate Children’s Poetry/Rap Project, Haringey Council Youth Songwriting Lyrics Session, Brent Council Youth Songwriting Lyrics Session, Just Breathe London (Poetry Meditation), Wanderlust UK, Cancer Research UK, Veridian House Corporation.

Kimba’s AIM High Writing Days

Kimba’s workshop will focus on poetry and performance poetry. The day starts with Kimba sharing some of his own work with the children. The students will then be asked for feedback on how his work and the work of other poets and writers impacts pupils. This is to get an understanding of how the day can empower them to harness writing as a tool of limitless creativity and liberation.

Attendees should not be surprised if sessions carry an air of theatre as Kimba has experienced how performance poetry & hip hop writing blur the line between stage and life, giving attendees an opportunity to see life from different perspectives.

The first half of the day will look at exploring subjects to write about and why. Then the children will explore figures of speech and writing techniques and will then start to generate their initial ideas to commence writing. During this session the students will have several opportunities to share what they have written with the class to use peer assessment and editing to improve their poems.

The focus for the second half of the day will be to work towards completing the poems, sharing them with the group and potentially starting the process of internalising their work and performing it from memory.

The day will be fun and challenging. A completely different kind of writing day!
