Colin R Parsons was born in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales and has always enjoyed writing from being a small boy.

About Colin
Colin admits that he was never any good at maths or science, but writing seemed more natural. ‘Some people love sport or painting or poetry. Not for me I’m afraid, but writing always took me to another world where I could forget about all the boring stuff as a child’.

Colin left school at sixteen and also left writing for quite a few years and didn’t start again until his early thirties when he wrote a short story called ‘Halfway home’ which he emailed to a publishers, who liked what they saw and published his short stories and that was his first real break.

Colin got his first traditional publishing deal in 2013 with House of Darke by Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie. He’s since had many more books published by them with: D.I.S.C. – GHOSTED and Wizards’ Exile.

In January 2019 Colin signed traditional publishing contract with another publisher ThunderPoint Publishing Ltd for his first Young Adult book of short stories – The Man with the Black Shoebox and Other Strange Stories. The book is to be published in 2020. He also brought out his very first picture book for 5 -7 year olds, in March 2019 after signing a traditional contract with Haus of Clare.

Colin is a member of The Scattered Authors Society – Dragontongue – Literature Wales.

Colin’s AIM High Writing Days

Colin’s days start off with a short presentation to ‘break the ice’. When there are children mixing from different schools, some may feel intimidated and shy, so the informal and humorous half-hour presentation helps bring them together.

They then play with the character’s names for the workshop. Colin throws a ball and when someone catches it, he/she has to give him a name for the story.

Colin then explains everything about the story that they are going to write (plot, description, grammar, spelling, dialogue, pace) and he’s there all day to help if they have any problems putting pen to paper.

In the afternoon they have a ‘reading session’ where the pupils read out what adventure they’ve come up with and Colin gives them direction.

Late in the afternoon when the writing and reading is done, Colin does a short book-signing session. To finish off he gives the pupils a choice – they can either do a Q&A session or a quiz called: ‘Film, book or both.’
This format has proved to be very popular and works really well.
