Book Supply
We supply books in one of two ways. Either the author brings books with them on the day or Authors Abroad will send the books on a sale or return basis. Please see below our FAQs for further details.

FAQs
-
When authors are bringing their own books on the day of the visit, they usually bring far more than enough. However, if you do sell out, the author, or Authors Abroad, can easily have some more sent by courier. The visiting author can leave you with signed book plates if necessary.
-
The author can collect the cash/cheques from your students during the book signing, but if you could have a member of staff on hand to assist that would be appreciated. If you take orders after the author has left, the author, or Authors Abroad can arrange to invoice you for a BACS transfer or payment by school cheque. Parents can also pay us directly online (see next point).
-
If you do not allow cash into school it’s no problem. We have an online ordering system where parents can pay using their card. The book letter we provide has a QR code to access this for each book. If they order before the date of the visit, they can be signed by the author on the day – we email you a list of names so that you know who has paid. If the orders are placed online on the day of, or up to 1 week after the visit we will post you the extra books with signed labels, and a list of who ordered them.
-
The key is promoting the books in the run up to the visit. We will email a poster to you that you can print and display around school, as well as a letter to hand out to parents, so that they are aware that books will be available for purchase and signing on the day of the visit. The letter can be emailed to parents, or printed and sent home as a paper copy. It’s a good idea to send it twice, once a few weeks before the visit, and again a few days or a week before. If the children are excited, and the parents are aware, the books should sell!
FAQs
-
The majority of orders tend to be placed AFTER the author has visited, so to avoid disappointing any students we estimate the demand and send the books on a sale or return basis. We keep orders open for 1 week after the visit, then any post event orders can be fulfilled from the stock supplied. Remaining books can then be returned. Ask the author to leave you with signed book plates so that these purchases can still be autographed.
-
We can easily send more books if we have underestimated the supply. If you need more before the visit has taken place let us know and we will discuss how many more to send. If you need more on or after the visit please take firm orders and we will send them as soon as possible. The visiting author can leave you with signed book plates. Orders can also be placed online directly with us after the visit (see later point).
-
If you do not meet the minimum number for free returns we ask you to please post the books back to us at your expense. Our address is: Authors Abroad, 2/4 Briggate, Silsden, West Yorkshire, BD20 9JT. Please complete the returns form supplied, and return it with the books.
-
Please collect the cash/cheques/parentpay deposits from your students, then let us know the total you have raised, and we will send an invoice so that the money can paid to us.
