Donavan Christopher - Writing
Donavan Christopher, aka D-Bo General, is a rap poet, cultural reggae artist, and a dedicated advocate for social justice worldwide.
About Donavan
Donavan’s work serves as a tool for self-expression and helps to motivate and inspire people of all ages. From early year’s education to upper secondary and university groups, Donavan’s school visits offer fun and thought-provoking presentations and workshops geared towards motivating and inspiring students to not only perform better in the classroom, but to become socially responsible members of a larger community.
Facilitating a safe and intellectually challenging environment, Donavan encourages students to express their views and opinions about challenging social issues, such as respect of self and others, tolerance and cultural diversity, and bullying.
Donavan takes his message throughout Europe, and has worked with a wide range of social organizations in the UK, including the West Yorkshire and Calderdale Police, Young People’s Service, and Crimestoppers. He has also spoken and performed at anti-gun conferences in both Huddersfield and Leeds, focusing on understanding gangs in response to a rise in gun-related incidents throughout the UK.
Donavan’s AIM High Writing Days
Donavan’s AIM High days include fun, creative writing to promote literacy through poetry, and the values of respect and phonic rhyming. The children will create three to four poems during the session and have an opportunity to perform and share their work.
The whole group will be involved in achieving the objective (this includes the staff!)
Everyone who is willing can perform and have fun - with the main value being respect all people.
All involved will have a fun filled day of exploring Phonetic Rhyme and rhythm through the expression of Rap poetry
Donavan will give a short performance then the students get the opportunity to create a phonic Rap, explore their creative thoughts and bringing words and poems to life. Also there will be a group writing session in the afternoon to spread the core value of Respect of Self, and Others. Students will be encouraged to take this message and share it back to school.
These sessions engage the children in thinking, writing and building confidence towards positive self expression, bringing back the joy and fun into everyday writing.
